What Kind of Care is Out There?

If you are a senior or if you know a senior who needs some temporary or ongoing support, there are many organizations that provide help.  Most people are uneasy when you say the words "Nursing Home."  Remember now, there are a lot of excellent choices for care. Each one has its place and performs an important role.

Independent Living

This is where most of us are.  We are independent.  The vast majority of seniors are independent.  They live in their own homes, apartments, or retirement communities and function without supervision, and are, for the most part, loving life!

Assisted Living:

If someone needs just a little help to maintain his independent life style, maybe an Assisted Living situation might be just right. Helping with bathing, dressing, medication reminders, and giving medications are just some services that Assisted Living communities can do. There are even some that specialize in dementia care.  There are group activities for those residents who are willing to attend.  Some of the most well known of these organizations are the Sunrise Communities located across the country, and there are also other communities that do an excellent job.  Assisted Living communities can be stand-alone or co-located with a skilled care facility to form a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC).

Group Homes:

Private homes have been converted into assisted living residences for a handful of seniors, usually with some mental challenge.  A group home can give a senior a smaller environment in which to maneuver and be comfortable.

Home Care:

We feel that home care is the best and most appropriate way for our society to show our love and respect for our seniors.  One-on-one care focuses attention on our deserving seniors, and provides them a sense of worth and sincere friendship.  Very importantly, when a senior needs something, he or she does not have to wait!  Home Care offers friends who are always happy to help, who are always right there dedicated only to him or her.

Within the Home Care field, there are enormous differences.  Home Health Care provides nurse's aides, such as you find in the hospital, to change bandages, provide bedbaths, etc.  Home Companion Care is well suited to seniors who need a friend, can no longer drive, or who need some help with meals, medication reminders, and the like.  It is also very well suited for elders with dementia. Within the Home Companion field, there is a broad range of TYPES of caregivers. Ours are the very best.
